Okay,
Day 2
Let me remember. I was so tired, but then we got up to go to the Louvre. Yeah!! It's the museum in the Davinci Code. And it houses the Mona Lisa, and the winged victory. But the Mona Lisa is the reason you go to the louvre. Oh, I forgot. First we went to Notre Dame Cathedral. We got there early so it was open but not really, you could walk through and did not have to pay, but you didn't get to see all you would have otherwise. It was fine, we saw what we needed to see. It's really pretty building. And the stained glass windows are amazing. I just thought, it would be really cold to have church in such a big place. And I know they did not have that many people coming to church that they made these humongous buildings. So I don't know why they are so huge, I guess I should study that huh? yeah, Yah. So next the Louvre. Oh, Pet Peeve. We have breakfast, I get a roll thing and orange juice and it cost like six euro. I can get a cafe con leche y orange juice y a pastry for 3.80 in Madrid and sometimes less, and they charged me 6 something without the coffee. What kind of nonsense is that??? Finally, Actually, the Louvre. So we wait in line, because they scan your bags, don't want you destroying priceless pieces of art. Wouldn't that be sad. It's a large clear triangle that you enter through and then go down escalators till you stand in another line for tickets. Actually the Louvre was one of our faster moving lines. And we got brochures in English, Italian, and Spanish. Cool huh?? Every where you go they have stuff for the major languages of Europe. It's always interesting to see. We got our tickets in hand, and off we went in search of our Big 3. The Mona Lisa, The Venus De Milo, and the Winged Victory. I think it's Winged Victory. can't remember. So I pass the Davinci tour up, next time I'll have to do it, I read the book, so it would be cool to take the tour. But the room the Mona Lisa is in is way different than he describes. So we follow he crowds of people to the place we all want to be. First is the Winged Victory, it's very striking, and there are tons of people around it taking pictures. i think I looked at it more through my camera lens than really sitting studying it. Anyhoo, the Winged victory is in the middle the Mona to the right, and Venus to the left. Where do we go first??? The Mona of course. My goodness people, like you didn't know. Okay So we are walking down this long hallway with these massive artworks on the wall, sort of looking at them, while keeping our eyes pealed for signs about the Mona. We finally see it, and our heart rates escalate. She is in the middle of the gigantic room, she is an average size painting on one wall all alone, not even the best color to accentuate her. But up close and in person, you really do see her smile, and the enigmaticness of it. In some pictures it looks like a line, but in person you see her, and you stop and think, what is she thinking? It's really cool up close, now I understand everyone's obssesion with her. You aren't supposed to take pics in the room but everyone is snapping away so I just let Camille take the shots and I stared at Mona. Oh, tid bit. Camille informs us that they have now traced the veil she was wearing and think that she was pregnant, because it's a veil people wear when they are pregnant. So that could be the reason for her smile. So we walked out of the Mona room into a really cool deep red maroon room, with the most beautiful paintings. They were nice, it's the ceilings, everywhere important in Europe has a grand ceiling, and you could just sit on the floor and stare at them for hours. Okay, but on to the Venus. Camille, with her art study self, tells us that she was once considered the most beautiful woman in the world and she is only a statue. But she's interesting to look at up close. So we've done the big three. yippee!! Next time you'll have to come with us. We walk through the rest of the museum and see other stuff, and then we have to head out to catch our train. But we have done Paris in only two days, and we have done well. Okay on to day 3.
